SP: Drooling dramas + our big bib winner!

Funky Giraffe bibsThanks to everyone who shared their bubba’s funniest / messiest habits in my bib competition! Congrats to Kelly Ryan – you’ve won a pack of ten bibs worth almost $40 courtesy of Funky Giraffe! I’ll be in touch to organise your prize. Don’t forget to subscribe to the newsletter (just fill in your email at the top of the site!) or follow me on Facebook / Twitter for more great comps.

I stuck my finger in Charlie Bear’s mouth this morning and he has nearly eight teeth, which explains why he is drooling like a Saint Bernard – and has developed a delightful habit of smooshing his face on stuff to wipe the drool off. Stuff like, oh, the couch cushions. The duvet. And his mama, dammit.

I always think he’s coming in for a sweet little hug, but before you know it I’m soaked with slobber. I can’t remember the last time I left the house looking vaguely presentable. Then there’s the furniture maintenance; keeping up with all the dried slug trails of drool and milk all over the couch / cushions is FUN.

I’m not sure when it happened, but life has suddenly gotten very messy.

So, we’re big-time bib fans around here, but I’ve learned through experience that not all bibs are created equal. Some hang too low. Others are too tight around his tubby neck. And don’t start me on the bibs with dodgy velcro that invariably end up on the floor. So I’m loving these drool-catchers from Funky Giraffe, which fit well, do the job they’re supposed to, have a lovely soft fleecy backing and have more designs than you can poke a rusk at.

Now, if Charlie approaches me with his brace-yourself-I’m-about-to-use-your-shirt-to-wipe-my-face look I can simply lift my hand and swipe him clean before he makes contact. It’s doing wonders for my wardrobe. (And, if I’m honest, his too – he rocks the cowboy look like no baby I’ve ever seen.)

For us it’s not the drool being wiped gleefully on us, it’s the snotty nose. Oh so charming 😉

ATM my Daughter loves to help with the nappy change. Arching her back, wriggling around, searching for a nappy or the baby wipes. She even lifts her little hips at times. It makes for a very eventful nappy change

Ah Rach, I hear ya… I hand Charlie Bear a book and that buys me some time! 🙂

My 4 month old LOVES nappy change time, always starts off with a cheeky giggle and ends up putting a huge frown on my face when he wriggles and touch his poo-filled bum! God help me!!

Yucko, happens here too and invariably ends in me and him having poo on our hands. Erk!

My little man is just such a nice guy he shares his toys with our dog. And our dog is such a nice guy he brings the toys up to play with our little man. Needless to say, the immunity in our house is on point! Haha!

How gorgeous. A boy and his dog and some big-time drool-sharing 🙂 heheh

Funniest habit at the moment, is that she thinks the front of her pants are a giant pocket so continually shoves one hand down there. We know what she’s doing but visiting friends and family are horrified about what they think she’s doing!

      Oh Di that is hilarious!!!

Miss R thinks yoghurt is a substitute for all of the following: face and hand moisturiser / wall paint / floor cleaner. Although this morning she thought it might help brighten my newly ironed work pants.

My little one has this messy habit of running her hands through her hair when she eats. Ok unless its tomato sauce or pumpkin mash!

That’s a daily event around here too Lucy!

my son likes to be like his big sisters and has to drink from a cup, except he thinks that the drink goes over your head and not in your mouth.

      Rachel 9 years ago

Haha, classic! Charlie has a sippy cup but can’t get the idea of tipping it UP to drink. It’s over the head or sucking on it curiously and wondering why nothing comes out 🙂

Chicken Parmigiana. Breaded chicken that is superglue sticky combined with the ever faithful staining tomato based sauce. Best cleaning method – licking it off!

Well, at least it’s efficient. Saves on wipes!? 🙂

My little one thinks it’s fun to throw his food at his sister

      Rachel 9 years ago

Eek, that sounds messy Sonia! Charlie just thinks it’s fun to wait until I’ve put dinner on his tray, then he just swipes it all off and onto the floor. Thanks for that buddy!!

  12. Kelly Brown 9 years ago

My bubs messiest habit it squishing the food in-between his fingers. Yuck!

For our twins it was their first time eating chocolate custard – the entire kitchen needed a wipe down.

Hahah – now that would’ve been a Facebook photo opportunity if ever there was one! You have my full respect Tara, I have enough mess with one baby!

Poo explosion. Mega force reaction team required to sanitise the whole area. Lucky there were any survivors.

My daughter likes to eat and use yoghurt as a beauty product. She’ll rub it all over her cheeks and even massage it into her hair. We now only get yogurt out when it’s followed by bath time 😛

    • Author
      Rachel 9 years ago

Hah, good idea! While I give Charlie a heap of finger foods and he feeds himself most of the time, yoghurt is still very much a ‘mummy does it’ type of food in our house. He has enough food in his hair as it is 🙂

My baby loves avocado but by the end of eating it, she looks like she is having a mini facial.

My daughter thinks picking her nose and wiping it on herself is preferrable to using a tissue. How lovely of her.

my son is getting some freedom from the highchair but when he drops something on the floor, he picks it up and eats it! He spilled his drink yesterday and as i was grabbing paper towel, i turned around to see him licking the drink up off the floor!

    • Author
      Rachel 9 years ago

Oh yep, been there. I have tried to stop getting icked out by Charlie eating stuff off the floor. Usually it’s soon after he’s left the high chair so relatively fresh, I suppose… argh… it’s so GROSS though isn’t it!?!?

  19. Amelia 9 years ago

Why use a spoon when you have hands, no?

  20. Laura Scriven 9 years ago

Putting food bits in his nose,
But to the hospital it flowed!
To take out a banana end,
His snot in that case was a god send!

  21. Elisabeth Martins 9 years ago

Messiest habit would be trying to eat my hair, suck on my nose and everything else on the face! Such an affectionate kid!

I catch Charlie chewing my hair all the time. It is weird. He must like the crunchiness of it 🙂

  22. Rosemarie De Bari 9 years ago

This is seriously gross, but my middle daughter was a poo=painter. She used to get hosed off in the bath A LOT! It’s funny now, but I can assure you at the time…it was really not.

    • Author
      Rachel 9 years ago

Oh my LORD. Bet you were glad when she grew out of that stage Rosemarie! You’ve gotta laugh or you’d cry 🙂

      • Rosemarie De Bari 9 years ago

It was seriously feral. I never thought I’d get one of “those” children, lol.

  23. Kadey 9 years ago

using me as the rubbing bin/ tea towel for every mess. They bypass the bin and towel (sitting next to them and beeline to me after skooting around other people just to wipe hands, face and put rubbish in my top

My son loves eating bananas which can get very messy.

      Rachel 9 years ago

Or what’s worse is when you give them a big chunk of banana, turn around and it’s disappeared. I have searched for banana chunks for days under the couch! Yuck 🙂

Often if I want to keep my young son contained AND entertained I will pop him in his high chair and pour water into his tray for him to splash around with. Works a treat for a little while at least!

Ooh I might try that Cathy – thanks for the tip!
